We started today at Culloden Moor. What a waste of life war is. The moor was lovely but the morning was cold and drizzly. Dan will have more photos, but here are mine the mountains remind me of home
Dan does indeed have more photos. Cody is seated in front of Leanach cottage. It was occupied by the government forces during the battle. However, it was occupied by farmers until around 1912.
This is a monument built long after the war to honor the Jacobites who died here.
When the battlefield was taken over by the state, the visitor’s center and this wall were built. There is a stone that protrudes from the wall for each man who died. So there are about 50 for the government forces (which is too low) and about 1500 for the Jacobite forces.
Me again. I have to say that reading the early Outlander books gave me a good gist of what happened here. For all of my eye rolling at some of Diana Gabaldon’s writing, she stuck close to the history.
Our second adventure was way cool. Recommended by our Family Medicine doc, we went to the Cairngorm preserve to feed the reindeer.
Dan’s photos:
You might guess that this is Cody:
This one kept trying to sneak into the feed bag before it was time to eat:
And this little one tried to follow us home. I think that Cody and Autumn might have taken her if possible:
